Herrick, who goes by the online pseudonyms “Heretic530” and “Mechanical Debauchery,” was posted to Redding Police Department’s Most Wanted on the charge of “Willful Cruelty to Child” on 20 May 2018, and made local news on the 24th.

Even though the warrant is from 2018, Shasta County Sheriff’s Office and Redding Police Department informed me that if a person is listed on their website there is still a warrant for their arrest.

Herrick, originally from from Shingletown, CA, has been on the run and hiding out in Sonora, CA since 2018. Tuolumne County Sheriffs Department was aware of this fact since at least July 2020, if not earlier.

The exact details of his 2018 “Willful Cruelty to Child” charge aren’t clear, but on 24 September 2015 Leslie Herrick was arrested for abusing his 15 year old daughter due to her failing a music exam. After growing angry with his inability to check her grades online, “Leslie began yelling at the victim and told her he was going to take away her social life,” according to the investigative report by sheriff’s deputy Julie Soksoda.

Herrick forced his daughter into a chair where he attempted to cut her hair with scissors. His daughter tried to push him off her “50 times.” According to KRCR News, after the girl pushed Leslie away, “Herrick pinned the victim to the ground to the point where she couldn’t breath. [sic] As the girl struggled to get up, Herrick slapped the victim approximately 10 times across the face” causing her to black out. He also forced her to do wall squats as punishment. The victim was noted as having a black eye and scratches on her face.

In the report Soksoda said, “The victim told me Leslie believes her hair and her social life is the cause of her getting bad grades.”

This tracks with a post Herrick made on Facebook on 04 September 2015, 20 days before his arrest, “she is three weeks into the school year and already missing three assignments. I made her go to school today without any makeup. I also took her to the bus stop I made her sit in the truck with me instead of hanging out with her friends… The big blow to her was when i threated to key up the PA system in the pickup so all her friends heard her getting an ass chewing.”

Misogyny and body shaming were instruments of abuse for Herrick.

Herrick is not a stranger to intimidation, violence, theft, and threats according to his own words. On a motorcycle web forum, Bike or Not, Herrick, under the online name heretic530, admitted to assaulting and robbing someone who allegedly stole his motorcycle.

In a Facebook post from 2013 Herrick wrote about someone he’d “thumped” a few years prior.

In a post from 01 June 2018, a woman named Leslie Missy VanRooyen according to her Facebook alleges Herrick “is the guy that tampered with the gun that I was shot with… they know where he’s at they don’t have the resources to go get him. He’s in Sonora Ca working at a shop. i want to get this out there I want him to stop hurting people.” VanRooyen has not responded to a request for comment.

Herrick was most recently seen working as a mechanic at Rick Bacon’s Customs and Collisions. From past discussions with owner of the shop, Rick Bacon, he was fully aware of Herrick’s outstanding warrant and history of abuse.

In his spare time, Herrick was an avid poster in the Patriots of Gold Country hate group where he displayed a sadistic enjoyment in harassing liberals and leftists in Tuolumne County. His personal Facebook reveals a number of bigoted attitudes grounded in a Christian conservative foundation. Membership to State of Jefferson groups suggests involvement with that hub for far-right extremism.
